Song of a Servant

Luke 2:25-35

Prayer for the Day

Help us, oh God, to listen for your call, to hear what you have to say, and to go where you need us to go. Let us be ever vigilant and help us to keep not just one, but both ears open to hear what needs to be done for your glory. Amen.

Question

Have you heard God’s call to action? If so, what marvelous things have you seen just because you were willing to listen to God’s call to you?

What’s in a Name?

Luke 2:21-24

Prayer for the Day

God, thank you for knowing each and every one of our names. We celebrate our individuality even with names that have been used before. And we celebrate Jesus who, though he had a common name, was far from common. Help us, oh Lord, to live beyond our names and as your children. Amen.

Question

What does your name mean? How did you get your name? What does it mean to you?

It’s a Boy!

Isaiah 9:1-7

Prayer for the Day

Lovely Christ child, please put hope into our hearts where fear now lies. Please teach us to trust in the small things and not to look solely for the big changes. Help us to remember that goodness and change can come in small and large packages alike. On this glorious day, let us look towards the future with eyes shining, full of your light and love. Amen.

Question

When was a time you saw good things happening in the least likely of places?

Making Room for Jesus

Luke 2:1-7

Prayer for the Day

Wondrous one, who came to us as a babe, let us fill the empty spaces in our lives with your light and your love. Help us to close out the objects in our life that distract us from you. Let us understand that you are there, always, ready to enter into any room of our life that we will open to you. Amen.

Question

What room in your life needs to be filled during this season of new beginnings? How will you invite Jesus to help you?

Take my life, my ordinary, everyday life, and let it be…consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

The Language of Praise

Revelation 19:1-6

Prayer
The Lord our God the Almighty reigns! Forgive us our silence when we have opportunity to glorify your name; help us give voice to the honor that is yours, now and forever.

Question
Wherever you are as you read this, look around. Don’t move from your chair, but take in the surroundings you likely take for granted each day. What makes you say Hallelujah for what God has done?

A Pondering Heart

Luke 2:15-20

Prayer: Creator God, we are stuck in routines that do not allow us the freedom to take a step back, and re-evaluate. Guide us to a more reflective place this holiday season, so that like Mary, we too may reflect on Christ’s birth. May we see new ways of how you work in us and through us and hold these new treasures within our hearts. During this time of gift giving, let us not forget all the wonders you have given us this year. Let the good stay with us in our hearts and let the bad make us stronger so that we can better serve you. In your name we pray, Amen.

Question: As a gift to yourself this holiday season, ask yourself how you have grown this year, both spiritually and personally (i.e. new job, changes within the family, etc.). How may you reflect to bring yourself closer to God?

Shepherd’s Suprise

Luke 2:8-14

Prayer: Almighty God, we thank you for the angels that you have sent down to us. Whether we realize or not; we are surrounded by them day to day. They are our coworkers who help us with projects, they are the grocery store clerks who help us carry our groceries, they are our church families who bring food to us when we are ill, and they are our loved ones who know how to make us smile in times of despair. From them we feel your love and are given hope that there can be peace on this Earth. Let us show kindness to those you send to help us and let us not forget the love you have for each and every one of us. Amen.

Question: Like the Shepherds we are scared by happenings we do not understand; how can we stay strong and have faith in God’s ways?
