Luke 2:1-20  (vv. 10-11)

Question for reflection:
The angel described the child Jesus as Savior, Messiah (or the Christ), and Lord. What would these descriptions have meant for poor Jewish shepherds living in a country occupied by the Roman Empire? What do these descriptions mean for us? What makes the angel’s announcement good news?


Prayer for the day:
Glorious God, a child carries your revelation bringing salvation to all. Glory to God in the highest! Let the earth declare God’s amazing work. Amen.

Question for reflection:
In what ways do you use the gifts God has given you as a source of strength? How have you praised God for these gifts?

The heavens proclaim the wonders of God. We rejoice in the Savior’s coming. Strengthened by the gospel give us vision to be instruments of your peace. Amen.

Making room for Jesus

Prayer for the day:
Lord, you came to a family who was welcomed into a home when there was no room. On this day when we celebrate the gift of salvation in the miracle of life, open our eyes to those around us seeking welcome. May our homes and our churches be places of refuge and rest. May our embrace be one that reflects your love made tangible in the welcome of a child. Amen
